What happens during the free consultation?
The consultation is friendly and informal and is an opportunity for both you and your child to visit The Learning Zone, meet with the tutor and to discuss what you want to gain from tutoring. The tutor will ask you questions to determine the areas you would like to work on and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. We understand that choosing the right tutor for your child is an important decision and are happy for you to think about it. There is no obligation to sign up during the consultation.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are typically 1 hour as we believe this is the optimum time in which learning can occur. If you would like sessions to be shorter or longer, please discuss this with the tutor who will assess if this is appropriate. We may recommend a shorter session for a learner if they are very young or have special educational needs.
Do you have experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs or disabilities?
Yes. We regularly work with children and young adults who have Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) including Asperger’s, Autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia. Carys, the owner of Worcester Tutors, is currently studying for a qualification in Autism in Education and we will soon become Autism Aware and Autism Friendly. We are particularly successful with learners with additional needs as we individualise every tutorial to suit the student. We are happy to liaise with the school and other agencies as directed by you.
Do you have access to wheelchairs?
Sadly, we do not have wheelchair access to our premises and as it is a listed building we are unable to make any structural changes to improve this. However, in order to ensure that all students have equal access to our services, we are willing to discuss the possibility of our tutors coming to you. Please contact us for more information and we will be happy to discuss your needs.
Do you offer one off sessions?
Yes. We have found that one off sessions are particularly useful for help with UCAS applications, exam strategy or to target specific areas of concern in an academic subject.
Do you give homework?
We don’t routinely give homework but we will discuss this with you in the consultation and be led by you. We may occasionally give the student work to take home to see if they are able to work on certain areas by themselves but again, we will discuss this with you at the time.
How much are the fees?
We offer the following payment options:
Pay for 4 hours of tuition
£120 (to GCSE) or £140 (A/S or A-level)
This option allows you to buy sessions in small chunks, so that you can spread the cost.
Pay for 9 hours and get your 10th hour free!
£270 (to GCSE) or £315 (A/S or A-level)
This option allows you to bulk buy and receive your tenth session for free.
£32 per hour (to GCSE) or £36 per hour (A/S or A-level)
Bolt on sessions are for students who need a specific number of sessions due to looming exams. For example, if you have six weeks until an Entrance Exam date, you can buy 4 hours at £120 (to GCSE) then add two ‘Bolt on’ sessions to take you to six.
All tuition payments are due in advance at the start of your tuition. We accept cash, card and cheque payments.
Do you provide gift vouchers?
Yes we do, vouchers can be for any number of tutoring sessions so that the recipient can choose what they wish to spend the voucher on. Gift vouchers can be used to pay for tutoring, Booster Classes or for our adult education. Perfect as a present for a grandchild or adult learner!
Where are you based?
We are based at our brand new premises on New Street, Worcester.
We are local to Worcester and independent. Unlike larger tutoring organisations, we specialise in Worcester. We have worked with students who attend Christopher Whitehead, Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, Nunnery Wood High School, The Chantry, Bishop Perowne Church of England College, Kings School, RGS Worcester, St Marys Convent School, and Malvern College.
